Heading east for our last stretch of Pacific coastline before crossing the isthmus of Mexico found several nice beaches and coves that are worthy of more time than we had for them. One large horseshoe shaped beach was completely void of any buildings - the nearby salt flats explained why. Other little fishing villages had piers and boats that were well used by the locals catching their share of fish.
Flowering vines climbed everything along the highway as we rode inland through the thick jungle toward San Cristobal. Here we found a beautiful hotel with a handy little cafe that made the best tortas in Mexico, a large rose garden in front and creeping vines throughout.
The colorful streets of downtown SC were nicely decorated with banners for an upcoming festival (not quite sure which one, but it seems there's always some reason to celebrate in Mexico). SC is a clean, inexpensive, happening little place that resembles what I envision the streets of a small European town to feel like. I wish I had spent more time there.
